Babette Lightner developed Wholeness in Motion™ giving voice to her synthesis of 40 years of teaching and studying human design, movement and well-being. She has been a Movement Educator for 40 years, a Certified Alexander Technique teacher for 30 years and a LearningMethods™ teacher for 20 years. She is the co-creative director for the the Center for Sound Music Education an not-for-profit organization in Ontario, Canada dedicated to promoting arts education based on this Wholeness perspective. She is on the faculty of the VoiceCare Network. She has an on-going relationship with the Vocal, Conducting and Choral program at Western University in London, Ontario. She co-teaches the Sound Music Lab and Explorations in Gesture, Sound and Pedagogy for the Western University Choral Music Education Summer Session,
For ten years she taught in the Professional Actor Training Program and Music Department at the University of Minnesota. Lightner has lectured and taught for many universities, institutions and organizations including the Guthrie Theater, Sister Kenny Institute, Balk Opera Music Institute, Taipei National University of Arts in Taiwan, and with the internationally acclaimed a cappella group Rajaton.
Her explorations into human movement have taken her around the world, from dancing with a folk dance troupe in the villages of South India to performing with a post-modern physical theatre company in the warehouses of Boston.
Her work with Wholeness in Motion's™ has several components. She is articulating a pedagogy for Music Education, Sound Music Education rooted in The Language of Wholeness™ the approach based on new paradigms of skill acquisition, structure and coordination. She currently runs an Apprentice program to teach this approach. Her Wholeness in Twelve™ program is a means to reach people all over the world in a regular way. She has a studio on 47 acres east of River Falls, Wisconsin. Babette maintains an active residency, workshop and lecture schedule. She works extensively with on-line courses and trainings.
She is the creator of many video resources and the author of Your Inner Compass, Pedagogy of Empowerment, Coordination of Being for Conductors and other articles that elucidate how your magnificent system can work for you rather than against you. She wakes up grateful each morning because seeing people awed by their own capability is like witnessing a miracle every day.
